Three fencers have been selected to represent South Africa at the men’s foil World Cup in Seoul, South Korea this weekend. They are Jacques Viljoen (UCT), Jarryd New (CPUT) and Skye Pym-Siljuer (UCT). These three fencers have also been selected for the World Student Games later this year.
The competition is the first team world cup of the Olympic qualification season. To qualify, South Africa must be ranked 1st in Africa and in the top 16 in the world. The team was ranked 15th in the world last year but dropped to 20th after missing the first half of the 2011 season due to lack of funding.
