Ikey Skipper on the Province Bench

Ikey Tigers skipper, Nick Fenton-Wells has had one helluva season. Not only has he led UCT's First XV to a Varsity Cup Championship and the ever-coverted Intervarsity win against Maties, he's also had an incredible personal season and domestic rugby has noticed. Earlier last month he was selected and made the starting line-up for an invitational side, the Premier XV, who took on the EP Kings in Port Elizabeth and now he has been named in Western Province's 22 for their upcoming Currie Cup game against the Leopards in Potchefstroom on Friday 22 July. This will be Fenton-Well's Currie Cup debut if he takes to the field, and we've definitely got our fingers crossed at UCT that we'll see that privilege (and that pink scrumcap!).

He joins fellow Ikeys brothers Tim Whitehead, Demetri Catrakilis, Nick Koster, Siya Kolisi, Hilton Lobberts and Marcel Brache who have also all made the 22.

WP take on the Leopards at 19h10 on Friday 22 July.

The Greek earns his first Currie Cup start

"I needed a flyhalf who could give the side direction, make good decisions, make the right
(playing) calls as well as holding his own in defense" -WP coach Alistair Coetzee on his choice of Ikey Demetri Catrikilis for WP's upcoming Currie Cup game against the Leopards.

Catrikilis has been a stand-out player in UCT's rugby season, playing an integral role in the Ikey Tigers victorious Varsity Cup campaign. Last week saw him on the bench for WP in their 26-26 draw against the Griquas but another Province flyhalf injury has opened the way for his first Currie Cup start.

Catrakilis has also been called "the most accurate place-kicker in our system" by coach Coetzee and we at UCT look forward to him slotting over many for another great Blue&White team!

WP vs Leopards kicks off at 19h10 in Potchefstroom on Friday 22 July

Ikeys galore for Currie Cup

South Africa's oldest domestic rugby tournament kicks off this week, and round 1 of Currie Cup sees Western Province hosting the Griquas at Newlands.

Exciting yes. But what's more exciting is the ridiculous number of former and current Ikeys set to take the field on both sides - clearly the benefits of the Varsity Cup competition are starting to show as well as proof of the talent that is coming through the UCT ranks.

Tiger blood boosting the Kimberley boys is thanks to two former Varsity Cup and Ikeys stars - lock Martin Muller named in the starting XV and utility back Matthew Rosslee on the bench.

Over in WP's 22 for the game, four Ikeys have been named in the starting lineup: Tim Whitehead at inside centre, Nick Koster at eighth man, Siya Kolisi at loose forward and Hilton Lobberts at lock. The WP bench will be kept very warm with three Ikeys on it in scrumhalf Nick Groom, flyhalf supreme Demetri Catrakilis and back Marcel Brache.

If you're heading to the game, wearing UCT gear might not seem too silly :P
Kickoff at Newlands is at 3pm and tickets can be booked on Computicket or at the Newlands Box Office.

The game will also be broadcasted live on Supersport 1 and Supersport HD2.

Once an Ikey, always a Tiger!
